Hernan Parra Artunduaga produces this Colombian coffee next to his mandarin and avocado trees at El Belen, a farm he shares with his brother, Reinaldo. 3.5 hectares are dedicated to coffee growing, where these Castillo, Caturra, and Tabi varietals are grown at 1420 MASL. Hernan's wife Diana picks the cherries during harvest, and their sons help with the processing and drying of the coffee. Hernan's carefully processed beans arrived to us to fill our Golden River slot, and his reputation for exceptional quality and processing really shined through the cup. Here's a glimpse of what we experienced at the cupping table:

The dry aroma presents a wonderful pairing of chocolate and vanilla notes, as well as the soft sweetness of simple syrup. Once wet, fruity notes reminiscent of golden raisins and orange marmalade appear. We also experience a bit of berry and soft cashew creaminess. The flavor of the coffee is sweet, fruity, and balanced, with acidity that we describe as a soft vibrancy. The mouthfeel is smooth and round with a honeydew melon and green grape juiciness at the finish. Overall, Chris and Amber scored this single producer coffee at an 89.

We're grateful to Hernan and his family for the passion and commitment they've put into this coffee, and we're proud to share these incredible beans with you.
